Intercultural dialogue at the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz

In times of globalisation, intercultural dialogue becomes increasingly important. The Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz, whose public spaces are walked through by on average 30,000 international hotel guests every month, would like to make a contribution to cultural dialogue with alternating exhibits of contemporary art. From January 10, 2010 the Australian Aboriginal photographer Wayne Quilliam will be exhibiting large-scale photographs in the context of Australia’s indigenous culture in the public spaces of the four-star superior hotel on Alexanderplatz. The exhibition areas on the ground floor and the first floor are open 24 hours a day; entry to the exhibit in the "art place berlin" is free.

From Australia to the Spree

In the central spaces of the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz, guests and visitors to the tallest building in Berlin can view Quilliam's "Lowanna" photo series. The work of the photographer, who won the 2008 Human Rights Award for Print Media, will be shown alongside paintings by indigenous Australian artists. Quilliam's large-scale format photographs show the culture of the Aborigines, his most important source of inspiration. The artist analyzes the forms of the naked female body and of the landscapes, in order ultimately to let them fuse into a whole. His works deal with the process of disguising and exposing the humanness in nature. General Manager Thomas Hattenberger is looking forward to the “guests” from Australia: “With his works, Quilliams brings some of the myth and the spirituality of the Aborigines to the Spree”.

“art place berlin”: a long term art and cultural project

Art, and the idea of bringing it closer to the large number of guests and visitors to the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz, stands at the centre of the changing exhibits at “art place berlin". Thomas Hattenberger adds: “As a public building at a prominent location we are free of financial norms and forces. We would like to take advantage of this opportunity and make a contribution to cultural dialogue and exchange with our exhibits.” Further information on the project can be found at www.art-place-berlin.com.
