The traditional stair-run is also taking place again this year

The annual Firefighter Stair Run is taking place again this year at the Park Inn Berlin Alexanderplatz. For the seventh time now 386 teams from 11 nations will be competing. Despite a few complications, which could fortunately be remedied, we are pleased to be able to host the competition.

Via a press release by the Berlin Mitte District Government the event was first prohibited from taking place. The reason was that enough events already take place at Alexanderplatz. It was reported that the limit of 120 events per year at Alexanderplatz had already been surpassed. „The event is n attraction and good for image of the Fire Services and Police“, explains Jürgen Gangl, the General Manager of the Park Inn Berlin Alexanderplatz. The traditional stair run will however take place this year.

The event will be co-ordinated this Saturday the 6th of May 2017 by the BSG Berliner Feuerwehr e.V. The Fire Service Teams will be welcomed by the General Manager of the Park Inn Berlin Alexanderplatz Jürgen Gangl at 11 am. The competitors will climb the 40 floors of the tallest hotel in Berlin. The 770 steps to the roof of the Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz are a significant challenge for the competitors. The protective clothing must be worn. Boots, suit, gloves and a fireman’s helmet are all part of a firefighter’s equipment. An important condition is the wearing of respiratory and oxygen masks, for a valid completion of the run. Only if there is sufficient oxygen left in the oxygen bottle, have the firefighters completed the run and can enjoy the view of the city from the roof-top terrace.

Competitors start in six blocks with 30 seconds between starts. The participants, which run in pairs, can run only with a maximal distance of one arm-length from one another. Runners are allowed to hold on to one-another, it is however forbidden to carry a partner. The 20 fastest teams from the 2016 run in the so-called final „Firefly“ block.

We are especially pleased to host this traditional event again at our hotel and thank the fire services for their participation! We wish our participants luck and success. Don’t miss out on this sporting event and be there on the 6th of May 2017 at the Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz We look forward to seeing you there!
